31 października magazyn Billboard oficjalnie ogłosił w czyje ręce trafi statuetka i tytuł Billboard’s 2017 Woman of the Year. Tegoroczną laureatka została Selena Gomez. W minionym roku nagrodę tą otrzymała Madonna, a dwa lata wcześniej Lady Gaga.
John Amato, dyrektor The Hollywood Reporter-Billboard Media Group skomentował wybór Seleny na Kobietę Roku 2017 w ten sposób:

Swoją karierę Selena Gomez rozpoczęła od grania w serialu dla dzieci Barney & Friends. W 2008 roku wraz z zespołem The Scene wydała pierwszy studyjny album. Na swoim koncie wokalistka ma jeszcze dwie płyty nagrane z zespołem, jeden album kompilacyjny i dwa solowe. Aktualnie jest w trakcie pracy nad swoim trzecim solowym materiałem.
