Duńska grupa Lukas Graham znana z bardzo klimatycznego popu i między innymi z hitu 7 Years powróciła niedawno ze świetnym singlem Share That Love! Z tej okazji miałam szansę zadać Lukasowi kilka pytań o muzykę, plany, inspiracje i jego spojrzenie na świat.
Adrianna Małolepszy: Przesłanie Share That Love uderza bardzo mocno zwłaszcza teraz. Czy możesz odpowiedzieć coś więcej o genezie tekstu i pomysłu na ten utwór?
Dorastałem w społeczności gdzie dzielenie się było czymś normalnym. Dzielenie się ubraniami, jedzeniem, pomoc w naprawie dachu.. <śmiech> Ale naprawdę. Do momentu, kiedy skończyłem 6 lat nie mieliśmy w domu wanny ani toalety. Patrzyłem jak mój tata razem ze wszystkimi sąsiadami wykopuje i buduje kanalizację. Do tamtego czasu używaliśmy publicznej łaźni i toalety w mieszkaniu obok. Gdy odnoszę sukcesy staram się wciąż pamiętać o tamtym czasie. Nie wszystko musi być nowe i piękne, żeby działało. Patrząc na otaczający nas świad mam wrażenie, że wszyscy, od hydraulika po polityków musimy wciąż przypominać sobie, że każdy jest szczęśliwszy mogąc dzielić się miłością.
AM: Jak nawiązałeś współpracę z G-Eazy?
Poznaliśmy się w 2016 przy okazji festiwalu Jingle Ball. Nie utrzymywaliśmy potem kontaktu, ale pewnego dnia zadzwonił mój manager i powiedział: „Hej, Luke, G-Eazy chce nagrać z Tobą Share That Love!” Nie wiem jak ta piosenka wpadła w jego ręce, ale kiedy tylko usłyszałem jak do niej rapuje, wiedziałem, że to się musi wydarzyć. Uwielbiam to co dodaje do tego utworu.
AM: Współpracowałeś też z innymi artystami jak na przykład Brandon Beal czy ostatnio Lauren Alaina. Czy jest jeszcze ktoś z kim chciałbyś kiedyś pracować?
Bardzo chciałbym zrobić kiedyś utwór z Adele. Oby się udało. Jeszcze w tym roku ukażą się kawałki z Wiz Khalifą i z R3hab. W przyszłym będzie jeszcze więcej. Bardzo się cieszę, że mój rozwój muzyczny nareszcie pozwolił mi pracować z artystami z całego świata.
AM: Czy singiel Share That Love jest zapowiedzią nowego materiału? Czy niedługo będzie album?
Tak, tak, tak. Zbieram i piszę materiał na płytę od czerwca 2019 i jestem bardzo zadowolony z tego co już mam. Teraz staramy się dopracowywać to co udało się stworzyć, pracować nad produkcją i zadbać by całość miała sens jednocześnie wypuszczając single. Na płycie wszystko musi przecież ze sobą grać.
AM: To co lubię w tej muzyce to to bardzo naturalne połączenie soulu i popu. Skąd to się wzięło? Czy są jacyś konkretnie artyści lub zespoły, które Cię inspirują?
Dorastając słuchałem wszystkiego i nadal mam bardzo specyficzny gust muzyczny. To co lubię to dobrze brzmiące i wyprodukowane piosenki. W prostocie siła. Motown, Bob Marley, Otis Redding, Dr Dre, The Prodigy, zespoły tak zwanej „inwazji brytyjczyków”… lista jest długa.
AM: Czy pandemia I izolacja wpłynęły jakoś na Twój proces tworzenia lub może nawet na same utwory?
Właściwie to tylko się kreatywnie rozkręciłem podczas tego lockdownu. Chyba za dużo podróżowałem, żeby za sobą nadążyć. Cieszę się małymi rzeczami i bardzo mi się to podoba. Miło jest zrobić przerwę od nie bycia w domu przez ponad 200 dni w roku haha. ALE, nie mogę się doczekać powrotu na trasę i do dzielenia się muzyką. Jestem trochę uzależniony od wyjazdów i powrotów do domu. To najlepsze uczucie. Cieszyć się światem, a potem wracać tam gdzie naprawdę przynależymy.
AM: Czy masz jakieś plany zawodowe na najbliższe miesiące, czy raczej czekasz jak rozwinie się sytuacja? Jeśli masz plany, czy mógłbyś uchylić rąbka tajemnicy?
Po prostu piszę, nagrywam i cieszę się z bycia ojcem. Minęła ponad dekada odkąd kałem okazję spędzić tyle czasu w jednym miejscu i nawet jeśli jest to trochę dziwne to daje mi też wolność. Praca z domu zamiast latania po całym świecie żeby zrobić nie wiadomo ile wywiadów w radio czy w telewizji.
AM: No i tak na koniec, na luzie, żeby może pokazać jeszcze troszkę Twojego gustu muzycznego, czy jest jakiś album, albo utwór, którego często ostatnio słuchasz?
Ostatnio u mnie w kuchni leci Khruangbin. Przypadkowo usłyszałem ich piosenkę z Leonem Bridgesem Texas Sun i zakochałem się w ich brzmieniu. Teraz włączam ich rano, kiedy mamy gości na kolacji, lub gdy sprzątam.

Dannish group Lukas Graham most well known from their sound mixing pop and soul and their hit song 7 years are their new, great single Share That Love! Because of the new release I was able to ask Lukas a few questions about the music, his plans, inspirations and outlook on life.
Adrianna Małolepszy: Share That Love’s message rings really powerfully, especially right now. Can you talk a little bit about the idea behind that song and where it came from?
I grew up in a community where sharing was the norm. Clothes, food, handywork to fix the roof lol. but really. We didn’t have toilet or a bath in our house before I was 6 and I saw my dad dig the sewer system with all the neighbours. Until then, we’d used the communal bath house and a toilet down the hall. I try to keep that in mind as I grow older and experience material success. Not everything has to be new and shiny for it to get the job done. And then looking into the world, it seems like a lot of people from plumbers to politicians need to be kindly reminded of the fact that we’re all happier when we share the love. After all sharing is caring.
AM: How did the collab with G-Eazy come about?
I met G in 2016 when we both did the Jingle Ball, a big radio tour in the US. We haven’t kept in touch, but one day my manager called me and said; “Hey Luke, G-Eazy wants to be on your song Share That Love”. I don’t know how he got a hold of it, but once I heard him rap on it, it was done. I love what his storytelling adds to the song.
AM: You also collaborated with some other artists like Brandon Beal or more recently Lauren Alaina. Is there anyone who you would still love to work with eventually in the future?
I would love to do a song with Adele one day. Fingers crossed. Later this year i’m dropping one with Wiz Khalifa and one with R3hab. Next year a bunch more collaborations will be coming out. I love how my growth musically has finally allowed me to do songs with artists from all over the world.
AM: Is the single a preview for more new material coming out soon? Is an album on the way?
Yes Yes Yes. I’ve been writing and collecting songs for an album since June 2019 and i’m very happy with what I have now. I’m in a place now where I just try to beat what I have while we’re releasing singles and getting the productions done, tying the whole body of work together. At the end of the day, an album has to feel like an experience.
AM: What I love about your music is that smooth, very natural mix of soul and pop. Where did that first come from for you? Are there any specific bands or artists who inspire you?
I listened to everything growing up and still have a very broad and eclectic musical taste. Well produced and well sounding songs and music is what I like. Simple is great. Motown, British invasion bands, Bob Marley, Otis Redding, Dr Dre, The Prodigy and the list goes on.
AM: Has the pandemic and isolation had an effect on your creative process or maybe even the songs themselves?
Actually i’ve only gotten more creative during this lockdown. I guess i’ve been moving around the world too much for myself to keep up. I’m enjoying the little things and I love that. It’s nice not being away from home for 200+ days a year, haha. BUT I can’t wait to get back to touring and sharing our music. Because i’m a little addicted to leaving and coming home. It’s the best feeling. Enjoying the world only to be reminded where you belong.
AM: Do you have any professional plans for the coming months or are you keeping most of it on hold right now waiting to see how things progress? If you do have plans, can you reveal a little bit about them?
I’m just writing and recording, brainstorming and enjoying being a father. It’s been more than a decade since I got to spend this much time in one place and even though it’s been super strange, it’s been wildly liberating. Working from home instead of feeling like I have to fly all over the place, to meet some unrealistic expectations of how many TV/radio shows i’m supposed to do in a month.
And just as a fun last question to also kind of give everyone even more of an idea about your music taste, is there an album or song you’ve been listening to a lot lately?
Khruangbin has been playing in my kitchen lately. I accidentally heard a song by them and Leon Bridges called “Texas Sun”. After that I was hooked to their sound and tend to put them on in the morning, when we have guests for dinner or when i’m cleaning the house.
