Według dziennikarzy Pitchfork najlepszym albumem 2012 roku jest Good Kid, M.A.A.D City amerykańskiego artysty Kendricka Lamara. Na podium znalazło się również miejsce dla Franka Oceana i jego debiutanckiego krążka Channel Orange (2. miejsce) oraz powracającej po siedmiu latach milczenia artystki Fiony Apple. Jej płyta The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do znalazła się na miejscu 3. W zestawianiu znalazło się również miejsce dla takich płyt jak R.A.P. Najlepsze utwory roku 2012

Stworzyć listę 100 najlepszych piosenek 2012 roku przy tylu docenionych albumach łatwo nie było. Dziennikarzom portalu Pitchfork jednak się to udało. Na miejscu pierwszym umieścili utwór Oblivion kanadyjskiej wokalistki Grimes, która wykonuje muzykę elektroniczną. Inny ich kawałek – Genesis – wylądował na 25. miejscu. Druga pozycja należy do Franka Oceana i jego nagrania Pyramids. Nie jest to jedyna piosenka Franka, która trafiła na listę. Oprócz niej znaleźć możemy Thinkin’ About You (11. miejsce) oraz Bad Religion (31. miejsce). Ostatnie miejsce podium należy do rhytm-and-bluesowej i lekko elektronicznej piosenki Climax Ushera. Jest to o tyle zaskakujące, że nowy album artysty Looking 4 Myself nie znalazł się na liście 50 najlepszych płyt. Miłą niespodzianką jest 14. pozycja dla singla Bad Girls raperki M.I.A. Niestety, w tym 2012 roku nie doczekaliśmy się jej nowego krążka. Na liście 100 najlepszych utworów znalazła się również Carly Rae Jepsen z hitem Call Me Maybe. Nie zabrakło również miejsca dla dobrze ocenianej Jessie Ware. Do jej singli, które znalazły się w rankingu należą: Wildest Moments (21. miejsce) oraz 110% (61. miejsce).
